one of the joys of exploring world music is finding something so different and interesting that not to have found it is actually scary. another surprise is that there really is no "foreign" music. Music really shows us just how rich our human spirit is! In my opinion Iva is a musical genius not unlike laurie anderson. Her voice and style are powerful and precise conveying a full range of moods from this east europian woman.based on a traditional folk sound she brings it to current state of the art of current hot music. Garmarna does this with the nordic style as does natasha atlas etc. Iva is the ticket here- great voice and violin, great arrangements, great material -like I said "state of the art". If you like this also try tara fuki- great east europian stuff!
The Title of this Review? Uggh! Iva Bittova.
When I first heard Iva Bittova's eccentric, erratic and Spuradic music my first thought was, "If I were an Eastern European violinist, this is who I would be". Listening to Iva's music is like being led through the labyrinthine groves of a psychotic genious' mind, one minute pleasing and phantastical, the next surprising and unfamiliar, but always pleasing. If you no longer wish to listen to music that sounds like every thing else in its genre (which wouldn't be many artist's music on this site) then you should induct yourself into the Iva Bittova fanclub. I did and I'm a better (if not more erratic and confusing) person for it.
Oh, and I agree with the above review: "...to not have found it is actually scary".
